Open Windows

All of the lights are off in my house and all of the windows are open and a soft blue twilight fills every room. The fan is off too but the air is cool and the only sound is the sound of raindrops falling on the leaves and on the eaves and occasionally a train whistle or a siren in the distance, a strangely reassuring sound.

My white, gauzy curtains flutter slightly in the breeze, billowing out in the room. Everything else is very still and the smell of rain fills the air. This reminds me of being very small and sitting in a rocking chair in the living room in front of the open front door with every light off in the house, watching the rain.
