I was in the great state of Ohio this week so I didn’t get a chance to submit anything for Russell’s Weekly Writing Exercise. However, Russell and I did collaborate on a song which I will hopefully post next week when it’s finished. And by “we collaborated” I mean that Russell wrote, performed, recorded, and edited the entire thing. I just sang back-up vocals.
While you’re waiting for that, my friend Anthony’s submission was a video that was inspired by the Chazen Museum of Art here in Madison. Anthony visits this museum nearly every Sunday afternoon. I joined him one Sunday a few months ago and I can’t explain why but I feel like that museum changed my life. Everett Shinn’s Clown on Empty Seats spoke to me in a way that no painting ever has before. I stared into its tiny frame for what felt like hours, lost inside a dream world of oil and canvas. The Chazen is an absolutely lovely gallery and I think Anthony’s video really captures the spirit of the place.
