I went out with that boy again a few days ago and we went to see a speaker on campus. Unfortunately, the author didn’t show up and neither did anyone else so after spending about twenty minutes in a darkened auditorium, we took a walk down by the lake and I don’t think there could be a more beautiful city anywhere in the world. We sat for awhile on the steps of the Capitol and, a few blocks over, I could see a group of old men begin harmonizing old Motown tunes. They were amazing to me because there was no audience anywhere in sight.
“They’re not singing for money,” I said to him, unexpectedly, “they’re singing for the sake of singing.” He looked confused and said “Yeah.”
He asked me out to see a show in June. In June. He also asked me to be his date for our company’s super fancy anniversary dinner next weekend. I said yes and snuck out of the car without a kiss again.
